Can we begin some articles promoting SHMADD to generate as many volunteers as possible besides relying on our contacts with organizations? Would Bruce & Diane post a sign-up sheet at the Egg & I? What about at the library, laundramat, Crack of Dawn, etc., etc?

Good idea. I'll contact Bruce and Dianne, the library, Brendan Ciecko, and Gerry and Brian, who I think are regulars at the Crack of Dawn.
